White background shots are still the norm for online retail. These need to be lit carefully using different studio set-ups, depending on the colour and texture of the product. Getting some test shots will help to see how your product looks under the lights.
How long will it take? Sometimes it's hard to know how long it might take to photograph certain types of products and if you have a large range, then requesting some test shots will be helpful for your planning.
I always experiment with various shooting angles and distances to capture the essence of your product. This creates a variety of compositions. Even a small piece of jewellery or a component requires photographing carefully from different angles with a Macro lens and I select a focal point for the viewer. Sometimes it's necessary to capture several shots in the same position, for example, if the object needs to be in focus from front to back as in the case of an earring. The photos will be brought together in post-production via something called 'photo stacking'.
How much will it cost? Test shots allow for more accurate pricing from the offset of your project and help estimating cost for ongoing work. Bear in mind that some shots and compositions take longer to set-up and shoot. By providing you with a mix of images you can choose most appropriate for your project according to your budget and preference.
Can we work together? With a test run you can see if you like my style and approach. The free trial gives you the chance to see if you like the photography that I offer. Also, I can learn a little about your business and through these practice shots I can gain some understanding of the product(s) and what the customer might want to see.
What are the benefits of a free trial? Apart from all that's been mentioned so far, going through this process helps refine your ideas for presenting your products online.
Whether this is a new business and you're just launching or a re-launch, obtaining some test shots can help focus the mind on what you want your customers to see and what they might need – sometimes this can differ.
With some test photos you might change what you thought should be the main photo on your product listing. You might find you need a closer shot for some products. Do you need multiple shots for everything, or can a group shot work too? By providing these trial photographs for you I offer you the opportunity to really examine what you want your product pages to look like.
