Hello! I am Caroline Fernandes, a product photographer and content marketer based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. I specialise in e-commerce photography for start-ups, small businesses, and emerging brands. Having worked in online retail since 2006 and run my own online company (www.healthysupplies.co.uk), I understand the constraints involved when starting out. I work with businesses to create content to attract, convert and engage customers.
I trained as a Primary School Teacher in South London and whilst studying English Literature with Education I realised how much more valuable non-fiction writing was to youngsters to equip them for everyday life. Of course, even in non-fiction you need to tell a story of sorts, but presenting facts and providing information had an end goal which was to help others learn and improve their lives.
Fast forward to the early 2000’s and I had started working for an online pharmacy called Express Chemist. There I learnt basic product photography and wrote web content. This involved plenty of research, including careful evaluation of regulatory and safety information. I also answered the telephones and got to learn a lot about the customer!
People in marketing talk a lot about buyer personas, and until I studied marketing I didn’t really have a name for the images of customers that would float around my mind whilst listening to them on the other end of the phone. It’s the act of listening which has helped me find new opportunities within my own and other businesses.
Selling and therefore marketing is a little like match-making for me. I want to help fix the customer’s problem by matching them to and introducing them to the most appropriate product. There is nothing better than making their day by guiding them to the right product. I’m no longer the voice on the telephone, but I guess that is where a love of content marketing has evolved and underpins my approach to brand promotion.
