Content Writing

Blog Writing

Adding a blog to a retail site is often an afterthought, but it can be a solid method of attracting customers to your site.

The benefit of providing useful landing pages for potential customers shouldn’t be underestimated.

I write blogs and articles for online businesses who realise that they can gain organic traffic by building a database of useful content. Business blogs can take on various formats which include longer articles, illustrated bullet points or simply a list of tips or a step-by-step guide.

Take a look at my recent work and see how you can win customers by revealing your specialist knowledge alongside your products.

Social Media

Finding a willing audience for your products has perhaps been made simpler with the arrival of social media. However, choosing the right mix of platforms can be difficult, especially when there are new channels entering the scene each year.

I focus on the more established channels for retail which are Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Emerging channels such as TikTok are certainly on my radar too!

I tend to write social media posts together with creating or assembling the visuals. For me it’s an integrated process, however I’m happy to do either.

Web Copy

I have written web copy for a variety of online shops from beauty products to bamboo poles.

With product descriptions I can include the right key words for google and at the same time give the customer comprehensive information in order to make a purchase.

My particular interest is in generating copy for FAQs, specialist sections and Case Studies. Having had first-hand experience of dealing with online customer service enquiries I know customers enjoy having their specific questions answered in full. Of course that’s too time consuming as a business grows, hence the importance of providing this type of content permanently on your website.

Promotional Emails

Email marketing to consumers is still a great way to retain customers and increase your sales. A quick google around for recent statistics (Hubspot, et al) will reveal this type of promotional activity continues to perform.

But where do you start? Besides the obvious sign-up for money-off incentives, they can be used to target customers more closely to fulfil their needs and interests. Relevant and timely emails will get opened and, if mobile optimised, will attract them on-the-go.

I can produce written content alongside stock and in-house images. I have largely used MailChimp to produce newsletters in the past, but I am happy to work within your preferred platform.

Recipe Development

Successfully selling food items online might have seemed impossible even back in the early noughties. How could customers get excited by food they can’t smell or taste? However the likes of Deliveroo and UberEATS, at least for takeaway meals, is evidence that there is an appetite for this type of e-commerce - excuse the pun!

But what about retailers, artisan manufacturers, brands that sell ambient (shelf foods) and fine ingredients? They can use the power of ‘the recipe’ to showcase their produce and entice customers into their online shop.

I devise recipes according to your business requirements. I test the ingredients, compile the instructions, provide alternatives for special diets and serving suggestions. I also offer food photography as part of the package.
